Multibody Dynamics Workshop 2022
4th International Multibody System Dynamics Workshop & Summer School,
12-16 September 2022
EVENT IN PRESENCE!

Methods of multibody system dynamics represent a widespread, versatile and reliable approach to the simulation of engineering problems that involve the dynamics of complex mechanisms. Applications of these methods can be found in many fields, for instance in aerospace, automotive, biomechanics, robotics and automation, to name a few.

Partecipants to this workshop will have the opportunity to interact with people from a diverse range of backgrounds: other students, researchers, professionals from industries and faculty staff.

Lecturers are experts in their chosen fields and committed to teaching with academic rigour and contemporary relevance.

This Summer School is part of the curriculum of the PhD Programmes in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering of Politecnico di Milano.

This event is organized under the auspices of ASME Technical Committee on Multibody Systems and Nonlinear Dynamics (TC-MSND)

NOTE: the entire event will be IN PRESENCE, at the Bovisa Campus of Politecnico di Milano, via La Masa 34, 20156, Milan, Italy.

UPDATE: we postponed the notification of acceptance by few days because of the high number of candidates that submitted the pre-registration form, therefore the deadline for sending the form for the final registration has been postponed to July 29th, 2022.
Jointly organized by

Topics
Various topics related to multibody dynamics will be covered, including (but not limited to):
  • Basic theory
  • Dynamics and kinematics
  • Numerical methods for time integration
  • Flexible multibody and finite elements
  • Contacts, collisions, and non-smooth problems
  • Control, robotics, cosimulation
  • Optimization
  • Software development
Together with experts in the field, applications to various fields will be discussed:
  • aerospace
  • automotive
  • biomechanics
  • trains, railways
  • artificial intelligence and deep learning
  • virtual reality and videogames
  • robotics, etc.
Target
The workshop is mainly intended for Ph.D. students in engineering but it is open to industry researchers and enthusiasts.
A basic knowledge of mechanics, programming and numerical methods is expected. Previous editions created a stimulating international context, with students coming from many countries.

Program
The workshop provides five days of lectures (mostly in the morning) and tutorials/hands-on sessions (in the afternoon.). Half day will be dedicated to a mini-conference, where attendees will have the opportunity to showcase their research with short presentations.

A detailed program is available.

Lessons will be articulated in open lectures, teamwork and hands-on sessions.
Various experts from Italy and abroad will be invited to give lectures on topics revolving around multibody system dynamics at large.

The Workshop provides for the recognition of 5 ECTS.
Admission
If a maximum number of registrations is exceeded, participants will be selected on the basis of their academic achievements and suitability for the program. In case of ex-aequo, priority will be offered to foreign students, and according to the order of application.
Application

The pre-registration form must be filled and submitted before July 10th, 2022.

Candidates will be notified of acceptance by July 15th, 2022.

By July 29th, 2022 selected participants must fill the form for final registration:

Venue
This event is IN-PRESENCE. Details available at this page.

The event takes place on the premises of Politecnico di Milano's Bovisa Campus, at the "Sala Consiglio" meeting room of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology, 2nd floor of Building B12, via La Masa 34, 20156, Milan, Italy.

The Bovisa Campus is well connected to the main transportation systems, being directly on the railway that connects Malpensa International Airport to Milan, which stops at the "Milano Bovisa Politecnico" station, and served by local transportation and regional trains interconnected to the main railways and metro lines through the "Milano Bovisa Politecnico" and the "Milano Villapizzone" train stations, both within 3 minutes walking from the School location.

It can also be easily reached by car using the "Milano Certosa" intersection and exit of Milan's outer highway ring. Milan can be easily reached by air, through three main airports: Malpensa, Linate and Bergamo-Orio al Serio, or by train using the main train line of Italy and several regional train lines.
